Edit CSV cells without losing track of what changed

Double-click a cell or press Enter to change it. The edit is stored as a “Cell edits” step with the old and new value, so it can be undone, replayed, or reported if the data underneath changes.

Arrow keys move; Enter or double-click edits a cell (recorded as a replayable “Cell edits” step). ∅ = missing, · = edge whitespace, ↵ = line break inside a value. Row labels show source:record provenance.

Edits as data, not overwrites

The example contains one recorded edit: Porto’s population changed from 231800 to 231962. Every edit stores the row’s provenance ID, the column ID, the value it expects and the new value. If an earlier step later changes that cell, the edit is not applied and appears in the ledger as a conflict.

The grid is virtualized in both directions, so large files scroll smoothly. Use the arrow keys, Page Up/Down and Home/End to move; the row label shows the source file and record number.

For general-purpose spreadsheet-style editing with formulas, a dedicated editor is a better fit. CSVUtils focuses on traceable, exact edits inside a transformation pipeline.

Questions

Can I undo a single edit?

Yes. Select the “Cell edits” step and use “Undo edit” next to any entry, or use the recipe’s Undo to go back a whole revision.

Do formulas work?

No. Text that starts with = is stored as text. On export you choose whether to write it raw or prefix it with an apostrophe for spreadsheets.

Can I add or delete rows?

Deleting is done with a Filter step, adding with an Append step from another file. Direct row insertion is not available.
